Parent Technology

Stay Plugged In

We are committed to establishing a network able to distribute voice, data, and video technology to all Catholic Central students during the school day, at home, and beyond.

We are also dedicated to providing training and support in the use of these technologies to improve instruction, enrich communication, and build information literacy among students, parents, faculty, administration, and the community around us.

1:1 Program

Catholic Central High School provides each student with an iPad as part of their learning toolkit. This section of our website will be your resource for all 1:1 program information, support, documentation, updates, and more. With iPads, students will be able to:

  • Use specific apps to support specific needs
  • Engage in self-paced and/or self-directed learning
  • Access, analyze, and apply real-time data and information in authentic settings
  • Demonstrate learning in new and varied ways

Student Tech Aide Program

Students also have opportunities to gain college and career-ready technology skills while developing into engaged digital citizens through our unique student tech aide program. Students are matched with their area of interest and we work to train students to act as first-level technology support for staff and students.

Our tech aides will learn about different careers and pathways available to them in the field of technology, while also learning how to diagnose and repair device and software issues and how to demonstrate applications and technology to peers and staff. Interested students must submit applications and interview with the technology department. Application information will be made available during the first few weeks of school.

important Information

iPad Damage and Repairs

A student uses their iPad on a daily basis and accidents do happen. Catholic Central will repair a student’s iPad, one time, for damage deemed to be accidental. Typically, these repairs are: broken screen glass, digitizer, home button battery, and charging port. Intentional misuse or damage caused by neglect will not be covered.

For devices that are damaged beyond repair, damaged not covered by our accident policy, or where the repair costs exceed the replacement cost of the device, the student will be billed for the replacement or the actual cost of repair.

Canvas Learning Management System

Catholic Central High School provides many digital tools that support the high levels of communication, collaboration, and creativity required in today’s classroom while fostering student development of the skills they will need in the future. A pivotal tool in supporting a rigorous and innovative learning environment is Canvas, our Learning Management System.

An LMS is a software program that brings classroom tools together to help deliver engaging instructional content and resources. Canvas, specifically, is the most-widely used LMS in the United States and offers direct access to instructional content, assignments, event calendars, the ability to electronically submit work, and so much more. We provide more specific instruction on how to use this program here and in the first weeks of school. However, if you have questions, please give us an email at chadbice@grcatholiccentral.org. We welcome the chance to talk with you about how Canvas supports your student’s learning and how it can help inform parents of classwork, grades, and schedules.

Phone Use During the School Day

As a reminder, student phone use is not allowed during the school day. We maintain this policy because, unlike school-issued devices, the school is unable to manage access to apps on student-owned devices. Also, by limiting device use, we ensure our bandwidth is utilized for educational purposes, making school-issued devices more efficient and accessible to all students.
