Congratulations to Will Preston on being named Mr. Golf for the State of Michigan for 2024 by the Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches Association (MIGCA)!

During his 4 year varsity career on the Catholic Central golf team, Will earned several awards while setting numerous school records:

  • All State as a freshman and sophomore.
  • Super Team honors as a junior and senior.
  • Tied (with teammate Matthew Sokorai) for the lowest two-day score at the MHSAA Finals: 141 (2024)
  • Tied for the lowest round at the MHSAA Regionals:  69 (2023)
  • Lowest round at the City League/OK Conference championship: 68 (2023)
  • Lowest round in an 18 hole non-league event: 66 (2024)

Will has also been surrounded by amazing teammates during his time at CC that helped the golf program realize its first State Championship in 2021, a runner-up finish in 2022, and another State Championship in 2023.  Earlier in 2024, along with teammates Matthew Sokorai, Sebastian Deimel, Tommy Jandernoa, Charlie Maczka, and Noah Onstott, the Cougars set a school record by scoring a team net score of 293 at an 18 hole invitational in Big Rapids, with Will earning medalist honors that day with a 4 under par 68.

Academically, Will was the Salutatorian of his class, exemplifying excellence in the classroom on top of his athletic successes.  He also was recognized as CC's 2024 Man of the Year, considered to be the greatest overall award at Catholic Central as voted by the senior class.

His academic and athletic accomplishments at Catholic Central will serve him very well as he moves on to Penn State University this fall.  Congratulations Will - we wish you all the best!
