The Catholic Central Girls Varsity Golf Team repeated as Division 3 State Champions with a dominating performance this past weekend at Bedford Valley Golf Course! The depth of the team, which was evident throughout the season, was again the driving force behind the team's 65 shot victory over second place Detroit Country Day.  The margin of victory was one of the best in the MHSAA Girls Golf Finals in the past 25 years.

A team score of 331 after the first day of competition resulted in the Cougars taking a 25 shot lead ahead of 2nd place Williamston.  Junior Kelsey Preston led the team's effort with an 81, followed closely by fellow Junior Margaret Deimel at 82 - both scores resulting in top 10 finishes for the round.  Senior Ava Wisinski (84), Junior Sofia Piccione (84), and Junior Mary Irwin (95) helped position the team for Day 2's charge for the state championship.

Not only did CC come out strong on Saturday morning, but they were able to improve on the previous day's effort by 10 strokes, finishing with a score of 321 for a tournament total 652.  Kelsey Preston carded a 4 over par 76 (2nd best for the day) with Ava Wisinski and Sofia Piccione both finishing at 80 and earning a tie for the day's 5th best score.  Margaret Deimel and Claire Sullivan (85 and 101, respectively) rounded out the day's scores and an incredible season with every one of the 6 varsity players contributing to bring CC its second Girls Golf State Championship.  Preston finished the tournament in 3rd place (81/76-157) with Wisinski and Piccione tied for 7th (84/80-164) and Deimel (82/85-167) finishing in 12th.

The day 2 score and the tournament overall results both rank in the top 10 for Division 3 Girls' Finals competition.  In fact, the 652 total is 10 strokes better than any Division 3 team's performance at Bedford Valley since Spring Lake High School's 662 in 2016.

Congratulations to the entire team and coaching staff  Thank you to the parents who were there every step of the way.  Special congratulations to our two seniors, Ava Wisinski and Claire Sullivan, who finished their time with the CC golf program with back-to-back state championships!

GO COUGARS!
