Catholic Central students have a comprehensive, developmentally-designed school counseling program as part of their overall education.
Academic Counseling Services
Counselors work with students to manage course registration, scheduling conflicts, standardized testing, career development, and college selection, admissions, and financial aid. They also address student, faculty or parent academic or personal concerns.
The Catholic Central counseling team provides the following programs for all students:

The Student Support Service team provides students and families with additional resources, services, and instructional support, whether it’s a short-term struggle with a particular subject or a longer-term approach to empowering academic success.
Working closely with students, faculty, counselors, and parents, Student Support Services ensures the most effective educational programming and intervention practices for students.
Our Academic Support Center offers a small, structured learning environment and consistent academic support in all subject areas for students with diverse learning needs.
Disability Support Services coordinate the process by which qualified students can request an Accommodation Plan Agreement. An Accommodation Plan Agreement is a written document that identifies specific accommodations a student can receive based on the current diagnostic documentation such as educational disability, medical diagnosis, and/or mental health condition.
Students with a current Individual Education Plan (IEP) are additionally monitored and evaluated by Grand Rapids Public School (GRPS) special education personnel.
Personal Counseling
The Guidance Office works closely with teachers and administration to provide a network of help and resources to aid a struggling student and family. Counselors and social worker are well-equipped and trained to provide personal counseling through academic difficulties, familial changes, and individual or community crises. Lastly, the Counseling curriculum is designed to collaborate with existing courses such as Theology classes and Health to incorporate faith-based decision-making skills and knowledge of mental health resources.
